Tottenham Hotspur appear to be making considerable groundwork to make signings in the January transfer window.

We’ve already reported on speculation claiming Spurs will move for a new centre-back, with Jean-Clair Todibo said to be high on their wishlist.

Now, a report from Belgium has suggested that Tottenham are frontrunners to sign Stanis Idumbo-Muzambo from Ajax’s youth team.

The 18-year-old winger has been playing with the Dutch giants’ Under-21s this season, and has three goals from 11 outings at youth level.

DH claims that the ‘most concrete avenue’ for Idumbo-Muzambo leads to Spurs, who have offered him a ‘project of four years’ for him to mull over.

Idumbo-Muzambo’s contract in the Netherlands is set to expire at the end of the season. This is why Tottenham are reportedly coming forward now.

Spurs’ idea is apparently to sign the youngster and place him in the first-team for the rest of the campaign. The various parties can then assess the next steps in summer.

Tottenham would decide whether Idumbo-Muzambo would stay put and challenge for a first-team place or go out on loan to pick up experience.

DH adds that he ‘needs to decide in these next few days’. And Tottenham are apparently currently ahead of AS Monaco in pursuit of the Belgium youth international.

Tottenham set sights on Stanis Idumbo-Muzambo

It’s good to hear that Spurs are looking at more talented players for the future. They’ve done very well in recent years, with the likes of Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie becoming established first-teamers after stints out on loan.

Idumbo-Muzambo is highly rated in the Netherlands. Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig deeming him one of several in a “very interesting generation of Ajax Under-18s” earlier this year.

Since then, the player has gone up to the Under-21s and he continues to look a cut above. With that in mind, a step up beckons. And Spurs will fancy their chances of bringing him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
