Tottenham Hotspur are likely to delve into the transfer market in January in order to bolster their defensive ranks.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Spurs would “100 percent” sign a new centre-back in the New Year.

In addition, Tottenham have apparently set their sights on Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, a player said to be high up on their wishlist.

According to Romano, Tottenham have already laid the groundwork for a potential deal, speaking to the player’s camp as well as his club.

“Tottenham will 100 percent sign a new centre-back in the January window and Todibo is one of the top targets,” the Italian said on his YouTube channel.

“Not the only one – I’m told – in the shortlist, there are also other names, but in the last seven days Tottenham spoke to player side, to player’s camp and also to Nice, to understand about the conditions of the deal.

“So Tottenham want Todibo but the timing will be important. Tottenham want to be fast on this deal, they don’t want to spend one month negotiating with Nice and with the player.”

Tottenham Hotspur target Jean-Clair Todibo is seriously rapid

Spurs fans should certainly be keeping tabs on reports linking their club with Todibo, as they seem to have legs.

The 23-year-old also ticks a lot of boxes for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham. He’s an incredibly talented player with considerable experience, a high ceiling, and plenty of good characteristics.

One of those is his speed. Todibo is absolutely rapid, as this video from Nice’s X account shows.

The player made a mistake which presented a goalscoring opportunity to the opposition, but his speed enabled him to sprint back and make amends with a last-ditch clearance.

Tottenham have one of the fastest centre-backs around on their books at present, in Micky van de Ven.

Should Spurs succeed in signing Todibo, they could pair the right-footed Frenchman with the left-footed Dutchman at centre-back.

If all goes well, Tottenham could potentially be about to put together the Premier League’s fastest centre-half pairing in the coming weeks.
