Report: Spurs close to Cristian Romero deal; Paratici will meet £47m asking-price
Spurs are edging closer to signing Cristian Romero from Atalanta, with Fabio Paratici getting near to the £47m asking-price.
Romero has emerged as Tottenham’s number one defensive target over the past week or two. The Argentinian star is one of the most valued defenders in Europe, and Atalanta want to get big money for him.
Gazzetta have now reported that a deal is edging closer for Spurs, and that the 55m Euro (£47m) asking-price set by the Italian outfit could be met.
The move from Spurs comes on the same day the club announced the signing of Pierluigi Gollini from the same club. The stopper has signed on loan, with Spurs having the option to make it a permanent deal.
Romero is seen as the ideal replacement for Spurs duo Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez. Both are expected to leave this summer, having been placed on the transfer list by Paratici.
Getting the Gollini deal done was important but if Spurs can land Romero here for big money, it sends a big message. It shows Paratici means business. It also shows the club still has money to spend.
Romero will prove to be a fine addition. At £47m, some will argue he’s a bit on the expensive side. But quality comes at a premium nowadays.
This is exactly what Paratici needed to do. He’s moved into a market he knows well, and got one of the top players in that market.
