Football London reporter Alasdair Gold claims that Atalanta defender Cristian Romero is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The Copa America champion is expected to complete a permanent move from Juventus to Atalanta. But he could be sold again, and he is keen on Spurs.
Romero, 23, has enjoyed a brilliant 12 months. The Argentine earned the accolade of the best defender in Italian football last season. Then, he helped guide Argentina to the Copa America title – the first of Lionel Messi’s career. Now, it could be about to get even better, with a move to English football.
The defender is halfway through a two-year loan at Atalanta from Juventus. But FL say Atalanta will activate the £13.8million permanent clause this summer, and then sell him on. The FL report says Romero is keen on joining Tottenham, as long as Barcelona or Real Madrid do not come in for him.

What is a fair price for Tottenham to pay to sign Romero?
The Athletic claim that Romero will cost north of £34.5million – but Tottenham are unwilling to stretch to that amount. However, should they? Italian football’s best defender last season, and a Copa America winner with Argentina – Romero’s stock is incredibly high. He is only 23, too.
For a smaller fee than the one they paid to sign Davinson Sanchez from Ajax, Tottenham could get themselves a top-class defender. Though it is a pricey initial outlay, a good couple of seasons in England would see Romero’s price tag double. It really is worth paying the current fee.
