Leeds have also shown an interest in signing Adams for around £10m in this window, seeing the Scottish international as an alternative to Charles de Ketelaere.
Southampton signed Adams from Birmingham City for £15m in 2019, and given the Saints lack of depth in this area, it would be surprising if they let him go for a loss.

The 26-year-old has two years left on his contract at Southampton, and manager Ralph Hassenhuttl is a fan of the forward, praising him for his ‘fantastic’ attitude.
Club make approach for Nottingham Forest target
Nottingham Forest have been by far the most active Premier League club in the market this summer, bringing in twelve new players ahead of the start of the season.
They have already strengthened their attacking options with club record signing Taiwo Awoniyi to compete with Sam Surridge, Lyle Taylor and Nuno Da Costa.
The Birmingham Mail report that Forest are still interested in signing another striker, and if the price is right that could be Adams.

The Scottish international would bring Premier League experience to Forest, but has never been prolific in the top flight.
Twenty goals in 96 appearances isn’t the best record for a striker, and it took him 24 games to get off the market for the Saints in the league back in 2019.
If Forest do take the plunge on Adams, they would be hoping he doesn’t repeat that shocking statistics at The City Ground.
