South Korea fans discuss Tottenham star Son's display in 0-0 draw with Iraq
Tottenham star Son Heung-min clocked up 90 minutes for South Korea in a 0-0 draw with Iraq – and South Korea fans were mostly underwhelmed.
Son, 29, was handed his 93rd South Korea cap on Thursday as Korea looked to get off to a perfect start against Iraq in World Cup qualifying.
But Son and co. drew 0-0 on home soil, with Iraq hard to break down. Korea boasted a huge 69% of possession come full time.
Son and his South Korea side managed 15 attempts, five of which were on target but failed to score the all-important goal to secure three points.
Son, himself, failed to add to his previous 27 goals from the left flank – even after the introduction of new Wolves signing Hwang Hee-chan.
What are South Korea fans saying about Tottenham star Son’s display?
At Tottenham, Son has started the season in super form. Scoring the winner against Manchester City, he then got a second of the season against Watford.
Such form even earned praise from a surprise source, in the form of ex-England international Daniel Sturridge on Twitter.
But he failed to replicate that form with South Korea. They stuttered in their opening third-round group game of 2022 World Cup qualifying.
Son is likely to win his 94th cap for South Korea over the course of the next few days, as South Korea take on Lebanon on September 7.
South Korea fans were disappointed by Son. One fan claimed he didn’t look “fully match fit”. But another says his touch was a “class above”.
