Every year there are one or two players from bottom-half Premier League teams who are ripe for big moves.
A few years ago, it was Leeds United’s Raphinha. Raphinha was linked to Arsenal before a move to Barcelona.
Last season, Joao Palhinha and Michael Olise got big moves to Bayern Munich from Fulham and Crystal Palace respectively.
This season, the talk of the town down that end of the season has been Wolves’ Matheus Cunha.
Cunha has been linked to Tottenham recently, while Arsenal are also keen on Cunha.
Now that the January transfer window is open, speculation is growing around Cunha, and according to The Mail, there could be some interesting developments this month around the £44m Brazilian.

What sources close to Matheus Cunha are saying
According to The Mail, Arsenal are indeed interested in signing Matheus Cunha.
Wolves are hoping to tie Cunha down to a new deal, which would ultimately hamper Arsenal’s chances of signing Cunha in this window – unless they were willing to pay way over the odds.
Arsenal aren’t planning huge signings this month, but sources close to Cunha are refusing to rule out the idea of making a move to the Emirates.
The Mail state that Cunha is likely to be tempted by a move to Arsenal, but a deal does appear to be complicated.
Matheus Cunha compared to Arsenal attackers
Cunha would be an incredible signing for Arsenal, and there’s an argument to make that he would be the Gunners’ best attacker if he headed to north London.
Indeed, Cunha is outscoring any of Arsenal’s other attacking players, and while Bukayo Saka’s assist tally is incredible, a lot of those assists have come from set plays.
| Matheus Cunha | Bukayo Saka | Kai Havertz | Gabriel Jesus | Raheem Sterling | Gabriel Martinelli | Leandro Trossard | |
| Games | 19 | 16 | 17 | 16 | 6 | 17 | 19 |
| Goals | 10 | 5 | 7 | 3 | 0 | 5 | 3 |
| Assists | 4 | 10 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
Cunha would be an attacking threat unlike anything Arsenal currently have, and he could be decisive in turning the tide in the title race.
Gary Neville believes Arsenal can win the league despite being so far behind Liverpool, and the addition of a player like Cunha would surely help the Gunners turn the tide in their favour.
Whether or not this deal gets done in the January transfer window remains to be seen, but there certainly aren’t many players better than Cunha that Arsenal could go after in this transfer window.
