Son Heung-min says 26-year-old Tottenham player has impressed him the most, he’s ‘fantastic’

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has now been discussing how his teammates coped whilst he was away at the Asian Cup.

Son returned to North London just as he left, helping Spurs to win in the dying embers of Saturday’s game.

Ange Postecoglou obviously missed his captain, but was probably delighted with how others stepped forward.

In a similar vein to Son when Harry Kane left in the summer, the likes of Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski stood up big.

Brennan Johnson has also been a decisive figure, even if he’s not always starting.

Moreover, when speaking to NBC Sports after the weekend’s win, Spurs’ captain discussed the responsibility all three of those players have taken.

And in particular, Son praised Richarlison’s goal-scoring at Tottenham whilst he was away this month and last.

The Brazilian has surprised a few at just how mature and composed he’s looked in his performances of late.

Previously a figure of frustration and uncertainty under Antonio Conte, Richarlison is now thriving under Ange Postecoglou’s stewardship.

Discussing the trio mentioned, Son did still admit there was work to be done to improve further as a team.

He said: “The most important thing is you take responsibility, which Richy does, and Kulu does and Brennan does.

“I think everybody was doing a good job and especially Richy, he was doing a fantastic job while I was away.

“I think we have some quality players but we still have to work on it to make it easier to win the game and make more impact.”

Of course, Tottenham fans must have been similarly delighted with how much Richarlison did step up during Son’s time away.

Perhaps it wasn’t always certain that the Brazilian was going to be a stalwart of Postecoglou’s project in the early days, but that certainly looks to be the case now.

And if Spurs are to chase a move for the likes of Ivan Toney in the summer, it will be one intended to compliment, rather than displace, Richarlison.
