Some Tottenham fans were feeling happy after Erik ten Hag was ruled out of the race for the manager job.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman is no longer a candidate for the role. The Italian claims that the Ajax manager failed to fully convince the Spurs hierarchy over his credentials.

Ten Hag was linked with the role in the immediate aftermath of Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

However, the 51-year-old subsequently signed a contract extension to keep him at the club.

He’s proved incredibly successful at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, winning two league titles and two Dutch cups. Ten Hag also helped the side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lost to Spurs.

TBR View: Ten Hag would’ve proven a fine manager for Tottenham

It feels like a case of the one that got away for the Lilywhites.

The 51-year-old has been an impressive manager for the Dutch giants with his style of football.

His impressive tactics and coaching of many youth talents has caught the eyes of the masses around Europa.

Given the profile Daniel Levy is looking for, it’s strange the coach failed to convince the Spurs hierarchy over his credentials.

It feels like a missed opportunity for Spurs in their hunt for a new manager.
