Some Southampton fans react to 'top-six' claims about Ings
Some Southampton fans were reacting after BBC’s Adam Blackmore provided an update on the future of Danny Ings.
According to the reporter, the England international doesn’t want to join a club outside the top six. He listed West Ham, Aston Villa and Tottenham as examples of clubs Ings wouldn’t want to move to.
The 28-year-old recently rejected the club’s offer of a four-year contract. It is a deal that would have made the ace Southampton’s highest-ever paid player.
Ings has been a sensational addition to the Saints since his move in 2019. The striker has scored 34 goals across the last two seasons, 21 more than second-placed James Ward-Prowse.
When talking about Ings, Blackmore said: “He doesn’t want to play for clubs like West Ham, [Aston] Villa, or maybe even Tottenham.”
TBR View: Ings deserves a move to a top six club after Southampton form
Ings has been a pillar of consistency for Southampton since his move in 2019, making his desire for a top-six move understandable.
His strikes have been crucial for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men, especially in the Premier League. His goals and assists in the top flight won the south coast outfit 16 of their 43 points last season.
At 28, Ings is entering the final stages of his career. It is unlikely he will receive a big move if he signs a new long-term deal with Southampton. This summer is crucial for the Englishman.
And, with a raft of top clubs chasing a new number nine, Ings could well be close to earning his long-awaited move.
Here is how some fans reacted…
If it was that clear cut he would’ve signed a new contract with a reasonable release clause for teams in Europe. He wants a big payday and better chances of getting in the England squad. Ambitious teams like West Ham and Villa will be enticing to him imo. #SaintsFC— Russ (@slyoldstoatyfox) July 6, 2021
So who are classed as top 6 now. City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool,?,?— Dave Maidment 💙 (@saintpahars) July 6, 2021
Can’t see him getting a game at a Top 6 unless off the bench or injury stricken!— Bob Stott (@sfcyorkie) July 6, 2021
Let's just sell him but to the highest bidder. Let's start a bidding was and see who wins it.— Richard (@trickysjoyboy) July 6, 2021
