Some Arsenal fans react as Lucas Torreira expresses desires for Boca Juniors transfer

Some Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media after Lucas Torreira expressed his desires to join Boca Juniors in a summer transfer while speaking with Ovacion Digital.

The Uruguayan has reiterated his hopes of securing a move to the Brazilian outfit, after telling ESPN recently that he had instructed his agent Pablo Bentancur to work on a deal.

Torreira wants to return to South America to be closer to his family following the passing of his mother due to coronavirus, and wants to have his Arsenal future resolved after the Copa America.

Arsenal are said to value Torreira at £15million (ESPN), just two years on from paying £26m (BBC) to sign the midfielder from Serie A side Sampdoria under Unai Emery in the first transfer window of the post-Arsene Wenger era.

Torreira made 67 appearances under Emery but struggled to establish himself following the appointment of Mikel Arteta, who handed the 25-year-old starting roles in just nine of his 17 outings before joining Atletico Madrid on loan for the season.

The midfielder now hopes to secure a permanent move away from north London, but accepts that a deal will be a challenge with two years remaining on his £75,000-per-week (Spotrac) contract.

“There was a lot of talk after everything that happened with my mother, because I expressed my feeling and my desire to come to Boca,” Torreira said. “But as time went by and being a little calmer in the group, I began to understand that everything is very difficult, too.

“Although I can’t stop thinking because my idea is to play in Boca because I know I’m going to do it, if it isn’t now, it will be later, the most important thing is that the dream is not lost, it continues feeding and that for me is very good.

“At the moment I don’t know anything. I still have a two-year contract with Arsenal and obviously when I finish the national team I will have to return to Arsenal and only then will we see, we will analyse with my representative what is best for me.”
