‘Sky’s the limit’: Ally McCoist now thinks £6m Arsenal man could be unbelievable in the future

Arsenal have built one of the most exciting young squads in Europe over the past few seasons.

Mikel Arteta now has a combination of home-grown academy talent and foreign imports to choose from.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Ally McCoist has been raving about one of Arteta’s players in particular.

Arsenal are preparing for their final Europa League group game as the World Cup break approaches.

A win will guarantee Arsenal top their group and avoid an awkward play-off against a Champions League side dropping down into the competition.

Arteta has a selection dilemma on his hands with a big match against Chelsea waiting for Arsenal on Sunday.

One player who may be relied on tonight and will certainly be starting at the weekend is Gabriel Martinelli.

McCoist admitted he’s been so impressed with Martinelli, and thinks he’s got a huge future ahead of him.

The £6m forward has been vital in both competitions for Arteta, with only Gabriel Magalhaes and Granit Xhaka playing more minutes than him.

The TalkSPORT (3/11 6:55am) pundit was asked about the young Brazilian after he addressed the press ahead of tonight’s fixture.

“I like him. I think there’s three or four in that Arsenal side, I’d include (Bukayo) Saka in it, there’s no limit to what they could achieve,” McCoist said.

“These lads seem extremely focused, they seem extremely hard-working which are qualities that you have to have.

“And you look at Martinelli, and certainly listening to him in that interview, I’ll tell you the one thing that’s come flying out of that interview is how happy he is.

“If you put all these ingredients together, the sky’s the limit for the lad, it really is.

“The Arsenal fans love him, he’s in a good place, it looks as though he wants to learn and he’s part of a great squad.”

McCoist has been massively impressed with Martinelli, and is excited to see what the future holds for the forward.

The Brazilian has plenty of admirers, with Jason Cundy even comparing him to Ronaldo.

The minutes Martinelli has played this season might be starting to catch up with him.

Arteta admitted last week that he’d had a ‘tough’ time recently, recovering from an injury and illness.

The 21-year-old clearly has a very bright future ahead of him.

He looks more than comfortable playing in one of the Premier League’s best sides.

The winger could even be on his way to the World Cup with Brazil.

Staying fit and playing as many minutes as possible are the keys for Martinelli now.
