‘I don’t know’: Sky Sports pundit tears into Emerson Royal and Davinson Sanchez in Tottenham v Bournemouth

Tottenham might have fought back to win at Bournemouth today, but Sky Sports’ Clinton Morrison wasn’t impressed with two players.

Spurs had found themselves two goals behind against the Cherries as Kieffer Moore had a field day against a shambolic looking defence. That defence improved after half-time and in the end, helped Spurs win 3-2 against the odds.

However, just before Tottenham decided to mount their comeback, Sky Sports pundit Morrison slammed both Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal. The pair seemed to completely switch off to allow Moore to score his second of the game. And Morrison was baffled.

“I don’t know what Davinson Sanchez is doing. I don’t know what Emerson Royal is doing. Get goal side and do some defending,” Morrison said on Sky Sports.

Both Sanchez and Emerson have come under fire on more than one occasion this year anyway. The Brazilian right back, in particular, has found himself at the centre of a lot of Spurs fans’ criticism.

They were bailed out today by Spurs’ comeback. But it will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte sees someone else taking that wing-back slot. As we know, Cuti Romero will come back in for Sanchez when fit.

TBR’s View: Tottenham v Bournemouth shows Conte has to replace Emerson Royal

It seems there isn’t a week that ticks by without there being some sort of comment made about Royal’s bad performances. And today was no exception. He was slammed in midweek for a bizarre no look pass as well.

Royal looks all over the place at times defensively. Even going forward, he struggles with the final ball element of the game and Spurs’ attacks often break down.

Ultimately, this is something Conte needs to address. He either needs to get Mat Doherty back in there playing well. Or, come January, he needs to spend some more money on a quality operator. That, or he finally gives Djed Spence a go.
