Martin Zubimendi is Liverpool’s top target this summer.

The Reds have had a really quiet window so far. Arne Slot was expected by many to make some big moves in the transfer market, but the Dutchman is yet to sign a single player in this window.

With the new Premier League season just a week away, the Merseysiders are trying hard to get new names in, and Zubimendi is the one Liverpool are pushing to sign.

Now, there is a really positive update on the situation.

Martin Zubimendi has decided to join Liverpool

Zubimendi has been on the radar of Premier League clubs for a long time.

The Spaniard has been one of the most impressive midfielders in La Liga over the last few seasons. He has been brilliant for Real Sociedad and many big clubs have been chasing him.

So far, all the sides who have tried to sign Zubimendi have failed to convince him. Despite that, Liverpool decided to enter talks to try and change his mind.

David Ornstein revealed that Liverpool have an edge in the race to sign Zubimendi because Richard Hughes is really close to his agent.

That seems to have worked in the Reds’ favour.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Zubimendi is now ‘keen’ to leave Real Sociedad and sign for Liverpool.

He has revealed that the midfielder wants to move to Anfield immediately, and talks are now ongoing between the two clubs to close the deal.

Plettenberg tweeted: “FC Liverpool are pushing to sign Martin Zubimendi with ongoing talks. 25 y/o midfielder is keen to join Liverpool with immediate effect. His agency Idub Global has the best connections with Liverpool as they are also managing Xabi Alonso.

“It’s unclear whether Liverpool has to pay the €60m release clause or whether free negotiations are possible.”

What Zubimendi will bring to Liverpool

Liverpool’s midfield has been their weak point for over a year now.

The Reds have struggled in the number six position since Fabinho left the club, and they just haven’t been able to solve that issue.

Wataru Endo has done well at times, while Alexis Mac Allister has also been good in that role. However, neither are long-term solutions who will take Liverpool to the next level.

That’s why Zubimendi is being targeted, and the talented Spaniard is a sensational option for Slot’s side for the upcoming campaign.

The Real Sociedad star is excellent on the ball, positionally disciplined and can act as a deep-lying playmaker. That’s exactly what Slot is looking for.

We think Zubimendi would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool if they can get this deal over the line in the coming days.
