‘Shouted’: Callum Wilson shares what Jason Tindall was screaming at him after missing big chance vs Brentford

Callum Wilson missed a big chance for Newcastle against Brentford on Saturday and earned an earful from assistant manager Jason Tindall.

Wilson went through and could have squared it across the box to two waiting teammates but elected to shoot and the chance went begging.

You can see the incident in the video below and Wilson said on the Footballers’ Football Podcast that was playing on his mind.

Later on, the chance came to play it to Jacob Murphy and he did exactly that, allowing the Magpies wideman to make it 2-0.

Wilson shares what Tindall said to him

Wilson said: “I had a similar scenario on a one v one and shifted it to my right foot, and as I’ve shot I probably should have chopped it and had two players standing there clear – but shot myself.

“If that hadn’t have happened I’m shooting on the left foot one! If I’d have then missed the second one and other people were in the same position I’m probably getting pulled off.

“Do you know what happened? [After the first miss]. There was a stoppage in play and the assistant manager has shouted, ‘Cal you have to square that’. I’m like ‘square what? I was having a one v one’, but then subconsciously that’s in my mind.

“As I’ve intercepted it I’ve then seen Murphy make a movement but the goalie’s legs are so wide open, I was like ‘ahhh’ but I squared it anyway.”

Newcastle scored five and Wilson did not get on the scoresheet and they netted four the week before at Fulham and it was the same scenario.

Wilson has admitted that has disappointed him and he will be looking to score at Old Trafford this Sunday to make up for that.

The Magpies have clicked in attack recently and they will be even more dangerous once Wilson starts scoring once again.
