Alan Shearer has told the official Premier League website that the performance of Son Heung-min in Tottenham Hotspur’s win at Aston Villa on Saturday was perfect.

Son was one of the stars of the show as Spurs seized the initiative in the race for the top-four in the Premier League. They were handed a further boost with Arsenal suffering a second defeat in a week earlier in the day.

And Antonio Conte’s side took full advantage. Tottenham stormed to a 4-0 win despite not being at their best at Villa Park. And it was the South Korean who inspired the victory.

The forward scored a brilliant hat-trick to move five clear of Harry Kane at the top of the Tottenham scoring charts. He now has 17 for the Premier League campaign. Only Mohamed Salah has more than Son.

So it would have come as no surprise to anyone that Shearer named Son his team of the week following the win.

“Three shots on target. Three goals. It was a perfect performance in a match where clinical finishing was the difference,” he told the Premier League website.

Son has now scored six goals in his last three appearances. Unsurprisingly, that has helped Conte’s men to nine points from nine.

Tottenham now look to be in pole position to secure fourth spot and a return to the Champions League next year. And having Son in such good form at this moment is massive.

It is not only Son. Kane has been absolutely outstanding for some time. In fact, some may think that the striker is playing the best football of his career.

Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski has been a revelation since his move.

Teams are struggling to contain that front three. And that may well be what fires Tottenham across the line in the battle for fourth.
