Shearer issues verdict on Tottenham signing Kulusevski in January

Alan Shearer has told the Premier League website that Dejan Kuluševski is looking like an inspired signing for Tottenham Hotspur as he named the winger in his team of the week.

Kulusevski appears to have taken little time to settle into life with Tottenham. He, of course, arrived having struggled to establish himself in the starting lineup with Juventus.

He joined Spurs on an 18-month loan. The club also have the option to make his move permanent, while that clause could become an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.

Based on early evidence, it appears inevitable that Tottenham will opt to keep Kulusevski.

He scored the opener against Manchester City and set up another in the famous win. And he followed that by scoring a superb second against Leeds on Saturday.

The Swede held his own on a day in which Harry Kane and Son Heung-min broke a Premier League record alongside him in the forward line. And Shearer ended up naming the 21-year-old in his team of the week.

“Another goal and another very good all-round performance by the Swede, who looks an inspired loan signing,” he told the Premier League website.

Kulusevski lays down challenge to Tottenham teammates Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kane and Son are well clear of the rest in the Tottenham scoring charts this season. The pair have 18 league goals between them.

Behind them, five players have two goals each. Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn are amongst them. But now, so is Kulusevski.

In fairness to Bergwijn, he has actually not played a lot more than Kulusevski. And many of the Dutchman’s appearances have come from the bench. However, he is yet to get close to replicating the impact he made against Leicester in other games.

Lucas has also provided four assists. However, Kulusevski has certainly set the challenge for his teammates in the last few games.

Spurs surely would not have expected such a quick impact from the forward following his arrival. And if he carries on at something like this level, Tottenham face a simple decision over whether to keep Kulusevski.
