Shay Given suggests £50m striker could’ve been another Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang if Arsenal signed him

Arsenal have explored a number of striker options in recent times.

The Gunners have been looking for a new striker for a long time, and a number of options have been on their radar.

Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s dream target, while Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins in the January transfer window.

Victor Osimhen was linked to Arsenal last summer, but, ultimately, the Gunners didn’t pursue a deal as he headed to Galatasaray instead.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Shay Given has been discussing Osimhen and Arsenal’s interest.

The pundit says that the striker may have been too much of a maverick player for Mikel Arteta, claiming that he could have rocked the boat at Arsenal in the same way Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did towards the end of his time at the club.

Shay Given makes Victor Osimhen to Arsenal claim

Given shared his verdict on why Arsenal didn’t go for the £50m striker.

Given reckons that Osimhen could have been another Aubameyang had he signed for Arsenal.

Darren Bent questioned Osimhen’s attitude recently as well.

“Well Osimhen was available in the summer. He went to Turkey, and you think could we not have got him?” Given asked.

“Then you question could Arteta manage a maverick player like him, previously with Aubameyang and Ozil he had his issues with them and got them out of the door. Was Osimhen too big of a character to add? Would he have rocked the boat? I don’t know, but I think he would have been a great addition to the football club.”

Victor Osimhen compared to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Osimhen and Aubameyang are similar in that they are maverick players who are rather outspoken.

Indeed, both players have had high-profile fallings out with key figures in the past as Osimhen fell out with Napoli’s higher-ups, while Aubameyang fell out with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

However, these two players are very similar in another way, they both know how to score goals.

Indeed, Osimhen and Aubameyang both have comparable goalscoring records throughout their careers, and, for that reason, Osimhen may be worth the gamble for Arsenal.

Of course, whether or not Arsenal go for Osimhen remains to be seen, and Mikel Arteta does need to consider if he wants such an outspoken star player in his squad, but the talent that Osimhen has is simply undeniable.
