Newcastle United fans will be on cloud nine right now after a superb start to the season.

Their sensible approach to the transfer window has left them in a great position going into the World Cup break.

A report from German journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided an exciting update on one of Newcastle’s summer targets.

Eddie Howe’s side brought in Alekandar Isak to improve their fortunes in front of goal.

Injuries have scuppered his start to the season, but he’s a very exciting prospect.

However, the signings of Sven Botman and Nick Pope, along with January recruit Dan Burn have made Newcastle very difficult to break down.

The report from Plettenberg could hand Newcastle their next defensive signing.

The Sky Sport reporter believes that Stuttgart have to sell Croatian international left-back Borna Sosa, and want around £20m for him.

Sosa is one of Europe’s most exciting young full-backs, and typifies the modern role of a wide defender.

Stuttgart have to sell Sosa

A report from Index in Croatia in August suggested that West Ham and Newcastle were both interested in Sosa.

The Hammers were leading the way, but Newcastle were ready to trump their bid to sign the 24-year-old.

He was also linked with Arsenal less than a year ago, and has previously been compared to David Beckham.

Sosa has provided more than 20 assists in the Bundesliga in just over two seasons, and has a wicked delivery.

He’s set to start for Croatia at the World Cup in a few weeks’ time, and Stuttgart will be hoping he impresses now that he’s on the market.

Howe has used Burn as his first-choice left-back this season, and the towering defender has clearly impressed.

He’s done so well, that he’s now in the conversation to go to Qatar with England.

Newcastle have made some clever signing under Howe, and Stuttgart having to sell Sosa will alert the club’s hierarchy.

The Croatian has a big future ahead of him, and could fill that left-back role at St. James’ Park for years to come.
