Tottenham fans probably don’t want to entertain the idea of Sergio Reguilon leaving the club already, but Real Madrid could be about to test that resolve in the coming weeks.

Reports from earlier today had claimed that Madrid were set to make a decision on whether to activate a buy-back clause on Reguilon. That report claimed that the clause was around £33m, and that Madrid were due to make a decision in the coming weeks.

However, and in what is a sense of relief for Spurs and their fans, Football.London have provided more details on Reguilon and the release-clause in his contract. They report that the clause is in fact a far more healthy £43m, which represents a nice £10m jump on the initial reports.

Further, FL also adds that the clause must be met before the end of the 2022 campaign to be valid. And in a further note of relief for Spurs fans, it suggests that Reguilon would also need to be in agreement and want the move to Madrid for a deal to happen.

Of course, it wouldn’t be out of the question. Tottenham are in a bit of a rebuild stage under Antonio Conte and we’ve already seen the Italian be ruthless in the January window.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Should Keep Reguilon If They Can

He might have a few defensive issues to iron out but he has done well in the main has Sergio Reguilon.

In the formation Conte plays, he’s also a useful asset. As a wing-back, he can utilise his attacking prowess to bomb forward and that is what Conte will want from his wing-backs.

Real Madrid will be tempting for him. Especially if they guarantee he’ll play every week. But overall, it seems Tottenham can at least hold some confidence in keeping Reguilon around.
