Report shares when Real Madrid will make Sergio Reguilon decision

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon is the top name on Real Madrid’s list of potential Marcelo replacements, with the Sunday Mirror (13/2; page 73) reporting that Los Blancos are expected to make a decision regarding whether they re-sign the player this month.

Spurs could be powerless to stop Reguilon returning to the Bernabeu.

As noted by the Mirror, they signed the 25-year-old for £27 million. Part of the deal however, included a buy-back clause worth £33.6 million.

Real have until the end of May to trigger that clause. And the Sunday Mirror (13/2; page 73) reports that he is their top target as they prepare for life after Marcelo.

Interestingly, the report adds that Real are expected to make a decision on whether they plan to try and bring Reguilon back by the end of this month.

Signing Reguilon looked to be a coup for Tottenham. And there have been times when he has looked every bit a Spain international Real Madrid wanted to keep on their radar.

He has been lauded on a number of occasions. Micah Richards labelled him ‘brilliant‘ last season.

However, his form has not always been consistent. And some may feel that Real re-signing Reguilon in the summer may not be a terrible outcome for Tottenham.

They will have made a reasonable profit. That is not something that can be said about some of Tottenham’s signings over the last few years.

And that profit may leave the door open for Antonio Conte to get his own signing in.

The good news is Real seemingly plan to make a decision in the near future. At the very latest, Tottenham will know where Reguilon’s future lies by June.

They will know where they stand before the summer window opens. So they can respond quickly should they lose him.
