The summer transfer window for Arsenal was characterised by their chase for a striker who could score them some goals.
Andrea Berta had several options, including the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Alexander Isak, Dusan Vlahovic and others.
In the end, Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth £55 million, bringing the search to an end.
So far, that move has come with a mixed start, as a flurry of early goals has dried up, but the performances have remained consistent.
While fans are still casting judgment on Viktor Gyokeres and how he will do, there’s another star that Arsenal could’ve signed that Sam Allardyce claims would’ve done well.

Sam Allardyce claims Jean-Philippe Mateta would’ve done well at Arsenal
Crystal Palace’s impressive run in the Premier League and their cup competitions has certainly caught the eye.
Oliver Glasner has implemented a system that is bringing them success never seen before in the club’s history, while elevating players to new levels.
Among those to reach the heights is Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has transformed from a squad player into a star in his own right.
There were plenty of discussions surrounding a potential move away from the club over the summer, but none of them came to fruition.
With that in mind, Sam Allardyce believes that Mateta would’ve fit in well at Arsenal, in a discussion on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.
He said: “Man United should have bought him [Mateta] without a doubt.
“Arsenal could have bought him, you know what I mean? And he would have flourished, you know what I mean? I mean, look at Crystal Palace.
“Crystal Palace, 18 games undefeated, and he is one of the main reasons that they are where they are because it’s not just his goal scoring ability, it’s all around play, no bullying, you can’t bully him.
“He can bully you, and it’s that because it’s not fashionable for the top clubs now, they have to be more slick, more rubbish, get him in your team.”
While Mateta may well have missed his chance to join a club like Arsenal, that’s not to say he wouldn’t be a fit, as one deal proves.

Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer disproves Arsenal’s transfer point from Sam Allardyce
While Allardyce claims that Arsenal wouldn’t want a player like Mateta because of their style, the transfer for Viktor Gyokeres disproves that.
The new striker is in a similar mould to the Crystal Palace star, having that strength to shrug off defenders and create opportunities.
There may be some questions over his hold-up play at times, in comparison to Mateta, but it is something he has shown an ability to do.
Arsenal are not bothered about their style of play, as proven by recent comments over Mikel Arteta’s defensive nature.
It seems clear that they are focused on winning, with Mateta not the eventual choice for them.
