Arsenal have completed the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

It has been a long wait for Gunners fans, who have had to watch Andrea Berta and the Portuguese giants’ president, Frederico Varandas, fight it out over every small detail during negotiations.

There were serious issues between Gyokeres and Sporting as well, with the striker’s camp alleging that his old club broke a gentleman’s agreement.

All parties have overcome the hurdles, and Gyokeres is now officially a new Arsenal player.

Things did not end well between Viktor Gyokeres and Sporting CP.

The Swede refused to return to training after the club’s president did not honour the gentleman’s agreement that the player believed he had.

Varandas made strong public comments about the Gyokeres deal as well, leading to speculation that his move to Arsenal could collapse.

Furthermore, the manager of Feirense women’s team, Laurindo Filho, blasted Gyokeres and claimed that he would never be a legend of the club because of his behaviour.

That statement has now backfired, as Sporting have acknowledged that Gyokeres is one of their greats in their farewell post.

After Arsenal announced his arrival, Sporting CP posted a brilliant video of Gyokeres with the caption: “One of the best in our history!”

Mikel Arteta explains what Viktor Gyokeres will bring to Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has been in need of a new striker at Arsenal for several years.

The Gunners have been linked with many big names in recent windows, but none of their other targets have been as prolific as Gyokeres, who scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting.

Arteta is delighted to have the Swede on board, and he has explained what Gyokeres will bring to Arsenal.
