Ryan Gravenberch leaves Liverpool fans in awe after Burnley display, ‘best in the world’

Arne Slot maintained his perfect start to the Premier League season courtesy of a 95th-minute penalty by Mohamed Salah.

The Reds once again proved their credentials as early favourites to win the league title again this season after a snatch-and-grab victory at Turf Moor.

Scott Parker set up his Burnley side well to frustrate Liverpool throughout the 90 minutes, but they were ultimately undone after Hannibal handled Jeremie Frimpong’s cross in stoppage time.

And while Salah will undoubtedly take the plaudits for sealing the 1-0 win for the Reds, the supporters believe one of the Egyptian’s teammates was the standout player on the pitch.

Liverpool fans believe Ryan Gravenberch is the best midfielder

It was an afternoon of few positives for the Reds at Turf Moor, and the supporters certainly ensured their opinions were heard on social media.

Although the supporters were disappointed with Milos Kerkez, they were in awe of Ryan Gravenberch’s display as Liverpool’s standout performer against Burnley.

One supporter wrote: “Ryan Gravenberch in midfield is a cheat code. The best in the business in his role.”

“Ryan Gravenberch is literally a Ruud Gullit regen, potentially on the way to becoming a Liverpool and Dutch Legend,” another wrote.

Gravenberch has become a very important player for the Reds – he was primarily used as a rotation option during his first season at Anfield until Slot recognised his potential to be the anchor of the midfield three.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past year, and his emergence as a must-start player has not been lost on the Liverpool supporters. “Gravenberch is a really rare type of player. A hugely technical 6 with physical attributes to match. His growth over the last 12 months has been incredible.”

Another wrote: “I’ve been saying it for months now, I genuinely don’t believe anyone in this squad, even Wirtz, has a higher ceiling than Gravenberch. Could easily become the best in the world in his position.”

Gravenberch continues to surprise even his teammates with the significant development he has shown at Anfield. His performance against Burnley was not a one-off display; it was another day at the office.

“Crazy that 2 years ago, Gravenberch was being called all sorts of names & now the timeline is quiet every game about him, not because he’s not playing well, but because a great performance from him is standard. Wonderful footballer.”

“He’s definitely the best midfielder in the league. Anyone who says Zubimendi is better either doesn’t watch Gravenberch or is an Arsenal fan.”

Ryan Gravenberch is the only nailed-on Liverpool midfielder

Alexis Mac Allister was removed at half-time by Slot after he was the recipient of a rough challenge during the first half at Turf Moor.

The 26-year-old completed his first full 90 minutes of football since April during Argentina’s loss against Ecuador on Thursday, and now he may be facing his second injury setback for Liverpool.

And considering Curtis Jones missed the clash against Burnley through injury and Dominik Szoboszlai has been forced to operate at right-back for the time being, there is only one nailed-on midfield spot at Anfield.

Gravenberch has proven that last season’s breakout year was no fluke, and if he continues in his vein, he will reach a point where even opposition supporters will not be able to deny that he is one of, if not the, best defensive midfielders in world football.
