‘Running this game’: Some Tottenham fans amazed by their star’s display for his country

Giovani Lo Celso started Argentina’s first group stage match in the Copa America tournament against Chile – and some Tottenham fans on Twitter were happy with his performance for his country.

Argentina recorded a 1-1 draw against their South American rivals on Monday night. Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the first-half with a free-kick. After that, Edouard Vargas equalised for Chile in the second period after a penalty save.

Spurs man Lo Celso, 25, started for Argentina yesterday.

The left-footed attacking midfielder has had an underwhelming domestic season with Spurs. However, he caught the eye during his 67 minutes on the pitch against Chile.

Fortunately, he showed some of his true quality by being heavily involved in his team’s attacking display. For his country, it seems like he’s capable of raising his game to another level.

Giovani Lo Celso can still win over Tottenham fans

Lo Celso is a first teamer at Spurs. But, it’s fair to say he’s not really made it yet in north London as a big-name player.

The left-footed Argentine is amazing on his day. For instance, last November he delivered a great cameo display in a Premier League win over Manchester City. But, five goals and one assist throughout the 2020/21 season isn’t good enough for him.

As well as inconsistent form, injuries has been another worry for the playmaker since he joined.

He’ll hope that next year under a new manager he can break into the best Spurs XI. Therefore, this summer’s Copa America competition is perfect for him to build confidence.
