Ruben Amorim must keep Man United attacker Matheus Cunha on bench vs Liverpool

Manchester United travel to Merseyside this weekend to take on arch-rivals Liverpool, in what is a mouth-watering Premier League clash.

Ruben Amorim’s men are looking to win back-to-back matches for the first time this season and build on a 2-0 victory over Sunderland last time out.

United signed Benhamin Sesko and a host of attacking players over the summer, adding strength in depth to the Red Devils’ squad.

However, if United are to come away from Anfield on Sunday with three Premier League points, Amorim needs to keep one exciting summer signing on the bench.

All eyes on Matheus Cunha

Old Trafford fans were excited when United signed Matheus Cunha over the summer, with the Brazil international joining for £62.5m from Wolves.

The versatile 26-year-old adds quality in the final third, but United supporters are yet to see the best of him.

Cunha is yet to record a goal or assist for United and was on the bench in the win over Sunderland before the international break.

With Liverpool likely to dominate possession at Anfield, United must keep Cunha on the bench to provide balance to Amorim’s team.

Fernandes playing further forward is the key

Amorim’s 3-4-3 system suits certain players in the United squad, but captain and key playmaker Bruno Fernandes does not appear to be one of those.

The Portugal international’s creative skills are somewhat limited when he plays as a central midfielder, like he did against Sunderland.

For United to have parity in midfield and to unleash their most dangerous player, Amorim should partner two of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo against Liverpool.

This would allow Fernandes to play off Sesko; keeping Cunha on the bench would provide that opportunity and ensure United are a tougher proposition for the Reds this weekend.
