'A big threat': Reported Manchester City target impresses in Euros openers
Belgium got off to a winning start against Russia last night and Manchester City fans will have loved what they saw from Romelu Lukaku.
The big striker is said to be a target for City this summer. Pep Guardiola is seeking a new forward, and the former Manchester United and Everton man has been mentioned.
Lukaku was in imperious form for the Belgians last night. As well as scoring twice, he also looked a massive threat throughout the tie.
He dropped deep at times like Harry Kane does for England. But when he got the chance to run at defenders, he was frightening. Lukaku’s pace, power, and raw strength enough to worry any defender.
This Belgium team has the potential to win the Euros. And given they saw off Russia with ease without Kevin De Bruyne, it sent quite the message to the rest of the competition.
Lukaku, though, was the star attraction last night for the Red Devils.
Lukaku performance impresses media outlets as City fans watch on
Scoring two goals was alway going to ensure Lukaku scored highly in any player ratings pieces in the media. And that was very much the case last night.
The National gave Lukaku a 9/10 rating, commenting on his overall play and commending his finishing too.
“Lukaku looked a big threat for Belgium, whether that was in the 18-yard box or dropping deep to link up play. The forward took advantage of poor defending to slot home the opener in the game. He doubled his tally late on with a brilliant run behind, finishing comfortably,” they commented.
Website Footy Critic, who analysed all the players on display, handed Lukaku an impressive 8.5. That sat him only behind Thomas Meunier, who got a goal and an assist himself.
For Belgium, things look good. And for Manchester City fans, it gave them just another reason to keep their eyes on Lukaku this summer.
