'One step away': Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham are close to signing number seven

Tottenham Hotspur are close to announcing yet another summer signing, with Destiny Udogie set to become their seventh capture.

Reports over the weekend had claimed Tottenham were indeed getting increasingly confident they could do a deal for Udogie. It’s believed the fee will be around £22m, with the Italian then set to spend this season on loan with the Serie A side before moving to London next summer.

And now, according to Fabrizio Romano, a deal for Udogie to Spurs is closer than ever, with the transfer guru saying things are now just ‘one step away’ from being done.

“Many other things happening in England and Spain. It’s important for Tottenham to look for many other solutions in the market in the coming weeks. Important for Tottenham that Udogie is one step away from joining the club. There is an agreement with the player, work in progress with Udinese for the player, who will stay on loan,” Romano said on his YouTube channel this morning.

Tottenham’s decision to sign Udogie comes off the back of a personal ask from Antonio Conte. The 19-year-old is said to have impressed the Spurs coach, who views him as a full international for the future.

This is good from Tottenham, this. They are signing a young player with potential who can benefit from another season in Serie A before moving to London next summer.

Udogie will play most weeks for Udinese this season and while he was left out over the weekend, that was surely just down to this move getting sorted.

Investing in the future is a smart play by Tottenham and Conte. They have signed plenty of players to help with the here and now but the future is also important. With Udogie and Spence at wing-back, the coming seasons certainly look bright for Spurs.
