Romano says Newcastle dream of signing Raphinha this summer
Fabrizio Romano has told Wettfreunde that Newcastle United dream of signing Raphinha and could make a move for the Leeds star this summer.
Raphinha’s future continues to be one of the key talking points of the window. Several Premier League sides want the Brazilian. And the bidding appears to have now started.
Arsenal have seen their first bid rejected. Meanwhile, reports claim that Tottenham are set to make their opening offer for the 25-year-old before the end of the week.
Obviously, Barcelona have been heavily linked with Raphinha in recent months. And Chelsea are also admirers of the winger, who finished as Leeds’ top goalscorer last season.
But reports have previously suggested that Newcastle also want the international. And Romano has now claimed that the Magpies would absolutely love to bring Raphinha to St James’ Park.
“I can tell you one thing. Newcastle is one of the clubs that could strive for Raphinha,” he told Wettfreunde.
“They are very ambitious on the market. Raphinha is one of the players they dream of. You also dreamed of Darwin Nunez.
“But they knew it would be impossible when Liverpool entered the deal. But it shows that Newcastle is trying to find players with such abilities. A top player who could come to Newcastle. But I think it would be more than difficult for Raphinha, as other clubs are in the race.”
Newcastle dream of signing Raphinha
Signing Raphinha would be an amazing statement of intent from Eddie Howe’s men. He is attracting attention from a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Leeds want £65 million for their talisman this summer, according to the Daily Mail. And obviously, Newcastle seem to be one of the sides who would have the means to meet those demands.
Whether Raphinha would be willing to make the move to Tyneside remains to be seen. His priority is to join a Champions League club. And he may feel that leaving Leeds for Newcastle is not enough of a step with a World Cup just around the corner.
His performances at Qatar could launch him to that next level. So he may be wary of making the wrong move in this window.
He is an ‘amazing‘ player. And it would really confirm Newcastle’s arrival as a powerhouse if they could secure his signature.
