Report: Newcastle want Raphinha; plan to rival Barcelona for Leeds star

Newcastle want Raphinha, and the Sunday Mirror (15/5; page 73) reports that the Magpies could blow Barcelona out of the water in the battle to sign the Leeds United star.

Raphinha will surely be the first key player to leave Elland Road if Jesse Marsch’s men are relegated from the Premier League. In fact, the Sunday Mirror notes that he could leave for just £25 million if they go down.

Leeds will demand £60 million if they manage to get themselves out of trouble. But Raphinha is reportedly expected to leave whether they go down or not.

It had appeared that Barcelona are favourites to sign the Brazilian. In fact, reports have previously claimed that he has already agreed a five-year contract with the Catalan giants.

But Newcastle are hoping to spring a surprise. The Sunday Mirror (15/5; page 73) reports that the Magpies would be able to offer a financial package that blows Barca out of the water.

Newcastle want Raphinha

Raphinha would be an amazing addition for Newcastle. He has been a revelation since moving to Elland Road.

The 25-year-old was one of the most exciting players in the division during his first year with Leeds. And while his performances have probably not been on the same level this term, he has still managed 10 goals in the Premier League.

Daniel James has previously labelled the former Rennes man a ‘magician‘. And he is arguably exactly the kind of player who Newcastle fans would absolutely adore if he ended up at St James’ Park.

It would be a bitter pill to swallow for Leeds if he joined another English side. But the Whites may have to weigh up whether the financial benefits outweigh the negatives of letting him join Newcastle over a foreign club such as Barcelona.
