Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Mo Elneny is leaving Arsenal in the summer and the club are already preparing a replacement.

The midfielder is expected to leave north London in the summer with no talks over a new contract taking place and his deal expiring at the end of the season.

Romano told his Here We Go podcast that Edu is already working away in the background to get a new face in, but it is unlikely to be Arthur.

“Elneny will leave Arsenal on a free [transfer],” he said.

“They’re already looking at the market for midfielders – they wanted Arthur in January but I think they’ll go for different targets in the summer.”

It was reported in January that Edu agreed a deal with Arthur but the club hierarchy decided against dragging it over the line.

It is to be hoped that there is alignment on this summer midfield target as Arsenal need at least two big signings to take them to the next level.

A new midfielder and striker would go a long way to making the jump to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

Alisson and Virgil van Dijk transformed things at Liverpool and perhaps Arsenal need similar levels of player, so getting into the Champions League next term is imperative.
