Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Arsenal will make a decision on whether to loan Nuno Tavares to Atalanta this week, with the left-back keen to join the Serie A side.
It has been an eventful summer for Tavares. He has attracted plenty of attention after his first year at the Emirates.

Marseille were keen on the Portuguese. And reports then claimed that Brighton had opened talks to sign the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Marc Cucurella.
It seems that Atalanta are now in the driving seat to sign the defender. In fact, it would appear that talks are now in the final stages.

Romano has reported that Arsenal will decide whether to let Tavares leave in the coming days. The sticking point in the deal is whether a buy option will be included.
Tavares meanwhile, is happy to make the switch to Italy…
Nuno Tavares could leave Arsenal for Atalanta this week
You can understand why Arsenal may be torn over whether to give Atalanta the option to sign Tavares permanently.
At times, he looked to be outstanding last season. Mikel Arteta suggested at one stage that he had been ‘exceptional‘ for the Gunners.
However, he is clearly not the finished article. And with Arsenal signing Oleksandr Zinchenko, they have more than enough depth at left-back right now.
There is probably an opportunity for Arsenal to make a good profit on Tavares next summer. But, if he does do well enough to tempt Atalanta to sign him permanently, he will obviously look a lot more like the player he looked destined to become earlier on last season.
Arsenal fans may not need to wait too long to find out what decision the Gunners have come to.
