Brighton and Hove Albion have opened talks with Arsenal over a potential loan deal for Nuno Tavares, according to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

Tavares has had a mixed time since moving to the Premier League from Benfica last season. When he initially got a chance in Mikel Arteta’s side, he did appear to impress many. In fact, there were times when he staked a claim to keep Kieran Tierney out of the team.

However, his deficiencies were exposed at times. Of course, the most notable incident came when he came off during the first-half of their FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest in January.

Arsenal are now on the verge of signing Oleksandr Zinchenko. And with that, Tavares could soon find himself on the periphery of Arteta’s squad.

Reports have claimed that Marseille were looking at the 22-year-old before switching their attention to other targets. But perhaps he could actually get the chance to move elsewhere in the Premier League.

According to O Jogo, Brighton are now in talks to sign Tavares on a season-long loan. The Seagulls are making plans amid speculation over Marc Cucurella’s future.

Zinchenko’s departure is set to see Manchester City step up their interest in Cucurella. Graham Potter’s side want £50 million for the Spaniard, according to The Times.

Brighton loan could be fantastic for Tavares and Arsenal

Tavares is not the finished article by any means. So a Premier League loan could be ideal for the Portuguese.

Brighton obviously play very good football. And Mikel Arteta previously said that Tavares is technically ‘very gifted‘. So it could be a very good match.

Tavares needs to get regular minutes under his belt in the coming years. And if Arsenal are not ready to give up on him, a loan to the Amex Stadium could be a brilliant option.
