Everton are now in talks to sign Udinese defender, Rodrigo Becao, in a move which could see the Toffees beat Tottenham to a new signing.

Sky Sports has reported on its Transfer Centre tonight that Everton are indeed in talks with Becao above him making the move to the Premier League. Citing Di Marzio over in Italy, it’s claimed the Toffees are now moving to bring Becao in on the same day the announced James Tarkowski’s signing.

Of course, should Everton win the race for Becao, it would see them usurp Tottenham and Fabio Paratici. Reports a few weeks back had claimed Becao had been added to the list of targets at Spurs. A £17m fee is the amount Udinese were expected to demand at that time.

Sky’s report makes no mention of a fee. However, with money in the coffers from the sale of Richarlison, Everton can at least make a few moves of their own now.

Frank Lampard has been desperate for backing this summer after helping the Toffees avoid relegation. However, the cupboard is somewhat bare at the moment in terms of funds, with a potential takeover still to be sorted out.

TBR’s View: Becao Would Be Great For Everton With Tarkowski

This would give Frank Lampard the solid base he needs to build a successful team on this season. Last year was a nightmare at times for the Toffees, so sorting the defence out would be massive.

Becao has done very well in Italy and performed to a high level with Udinese. The thought of him partnering new signing Tarkowski is clearly one Lampard likes the look of.

At £17m, Becao could be a bargain in the modern market. And to beat a club like Tottenham, who are flying in this window, would be a nice sweetener as well.
