Rob Page reacts to Neco Williams display for Wales
Rob Page has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 16/11; 22:15) that Neco Williams has taken his game to another level after the Liverpool starlet’s performance for Wales in their draw with Belgium.
Williams went into the game off the back of an outstanding display against Belarus at the weekend. He actually scored his second goal for his country in the 5-1 thrashing.
His display prompted Wales Online to hand him a 9/10 rating – higher than any other player in the team on that night.
And he has now followed that with another outstanding performance as the Welsh secured their spot as a seeded team in the play-off round ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Wales only needed a point to keep that position in their group. However, standing between them and the result that they needed was Belgium.
Czech Republic did what they needed with a win over Estonia. But Wales were superb against Roberto Martinez’s men, gaining a point on a night when they really threatened to take all three.
Once again, Williams was absolutely superb. And after listing a load of plaudits for several of his teammates, Page offered a simple assessment of how good the 20-year-old has been.
“Neco Williams, for me, has gone to another level,” he told Sky Sports.
Neco Williams a revelation for Wales during international break
It really does appear that he has found another gear during this international break. Previously, he looked to be well down the pecking order at Liverpool. And he had struggled to silence all of his doubters.
However, if his two latest performances are a sign of what is to come, the Reds unquestionably have another special talent on their hands.
