Rob Green shares what Luke Ailing told him about Leeds 21-year-old
Rob Green has shared that Leeds United defender Luke Ayling told him that Illan Meslier would be receiving a lot more attention if he was English.
Meslier, 21, is a talented young goalkeeper who’s been in-between the Leeds sticks this season.
The French shot-stopper ended the Premier League season with 11 clean sheets and has strolled through his debut campaign in the top flight.
Despite his youthfulness, he’s already a commanding presence who dominates his box. Additionally, he’s got great reflexes, and he can play out from the back effortlessly.
The Whites must have known they had a talent on their hands when he got some minutes at the back end of the title-winning season in the Championship. However, he’s surpassed expectations during his first year in the Premier League.
Pundit and ex-Leeds star Green has described Meslier as “amazing”.
“As Luke Ayling said to me: ‘If he was English, everyone would be raving about him’,” Green said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“He is an amazing kid and only 21.”
Is Meslier the most valuable player at Leeds
If you were to value each individual in the Leeds squad, surely Meslier would come near the top.
Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha are the duo that spring to mind as the most valuable in the transfer market. However, the fact Meslier is aged 21 means he would surely cost a fortune.
The Yorkshire giants are set in goal for the next decade if Meslier stays and what’s scary is that he should be nowhere near his peak.
Usually, goalkeepers do take a little longer to reach their prime. For Leeds, they should hope their talent keeps going under the radar.
He must be one of the first names in Marcelo Bielsa’s XI.
