Rio Ferdinand urges Arsenal to go and buy Gabriel Jesus this summer

Rio Ferdinand has suggested on his YouTube channel that Arsenal should look to sign Gabriel Jesus in the summer after being told by Fabrizio Romano that the Manchester City striker could face an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium.

Jesus has had an interesting season for Pep Guardiola’s side. He has only managed to score two goals in 20 Premier League appearances. And his record is a little alarming when you consider that he has started 15 times.

However, no player in the City side has provided more assists in the Premier League this season. The 24-year-old has seven so far – five more than Kevin De Bruyne.

City, of course, failed to sign a new striker in the summer. So it would be little surprise if Guardiola’s men made a new goalscorer a priority in the coming months.

Jesus is coming into a pivotal moment in his Cityzens career. Romano was asked about the links with Inter Milan, and he confirmed that the forward is currently set to be out of contract at the end of next season.

‘I would go and buy’

Interestingly, Ferdinand went on to make an intriguing claim later in the podcast that Arsenal should make their own move for Jesus.

“At the moment I’m told there’s no talks for Gabriel Jesus because [Inter] can’t bid for €60 or €50 million so we’re just talking about ideas and rumours. But I’m sure that Gabriel Jesus’s situation, alongside of Raheem Sterling’s situation, is something that needs to be clarified in the coming months for Manchester City. They’re both out of contract in 2023,” Romano told Ferdinand’s YouTube channel.

“For Gabriel Jesus, they need to discuss internally and see what they want to do. Because, with a new striker joining Manchester City in the summer, I’m not sure that the position of Gabriel Jesus will be so clear.”

“If I was Arsenal, I would go and buy Gabriel Jesus,” Ferdinand went on to add.

Arsenal will surely consider Gabriel Jesus with Gunners also needing striker

Arsenal definitely need a new striker this summer. Reports claimed they are interested in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak. But others will surely be on the radar too.

So Gabriel Jesus may come into the conversation for Arsenal. He has 52 Premier League goals in 151 games. And Guardiola previously labelled him ‘brilliant‘.

Interestingly, Arsenal wanted several Manchester City players last summer. There were links with Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez. Those players have since scored 25 league goals between them.

Perhaps Arsenal will factor that in if they weigh up a move for Jesus this time around.
