Rio Ferdinand reacts to Romano claim on Liverpool target Raphinha
Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that he is not sure Raphinha should push to leave Leeds United for Liverpool after Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Reds asked about the winger in the summer.
Raphinha has been a revelation since coming to Elland Road. He only cost the Whites £17 million last year. And he went on to score six goals and contribute nine assists.
He has continued to impress this season. Raphinha tops the Leeds goalscoring charts, with five strikes in the Premier League. He has certainly been the shining light for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
He has also forced his way into the Brazil fold this season. The 24-year-old already has two goals in five caps for Selecao.
Romano claimed that Liverpool asked about Raphinha over the summer. He went on to suggest that they immediately backed away after learning that Leeds wanted ‘more than £60 million’ for their talisman.
He went on to suggest that Jurgen Klopp is still an admirer of Raphinha. But Ferdinand claimed that the wide-man should have reservations about moving to Anfield.
“The only problem I think with something like Raphinha going to Liverpool is just where he’s going to play? He’s not going to start,” he told his YouTube channel.
“So, £60 million not to start is a big, big fee. And for him as a player, I’m sure he’ll have more options. It’s a great club, don’t get me wrong, going to be fighting on all fronts to win things.
“That question won’t be answered in a positive way for him: will I start a lot of games? If Salah stays and signs a new contract, it puts a dampener on his ability to play.”
Liverpool gambling if they do not pay the money for Raphinha next summer
Leeds fans are aware that keeping Raphinha is only going to get more and more difficult as time goes on. They have always been fairly realistic about what his future holds.
At some stage, it is likely that he will leave Elland Road.
Liverpool will be wary of missing out. And they should be wary of his value increasing further as he continues to impress.
A look on social media whenever Leeds play will tell you that a lot of Reds fans will be very disappointed if he ends up moving elsewhere.
