Manchester United winning the Premier League might be the ultimate dream for Rio Ferdinand, but while he waits for the glory days to return to Old Trafford, he’s backing another team to lift the title.

Liverpool and Arsenal started the season as the favourites to win the Premier League, and after the opening six games, those predictions have been solidified.

The defending champions sit top of the table with 15 points, while Mikel Arteta’s men are just two points behind them in second place.

Both teams have lost just a single game, with Liverpool’s first defeat coming this past weekend, which allowed the Gunners to put some pressure on and close the gap between them.

Despite Liverpool and Arsenal being the early frontrunners, Ferdinand hopes a dark horse can provide a surprise threat this season.

Rio Ferdinand wants Crystal Palace to win the Premier League

While Liverpool and Arsenal are in the top two, Crystal Palace are third in the Premier League table, and it has become the surprise package so far this season.

The Eagles handed Liverpool their first defeat of the season this past weekend, and with just three points between them and Arne Slot’s side, they have gained the full support of a Man United legend.

During the latest episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former six-time Premier League winner backed Crystal Palace to win the title.

“If I could ask for someone to win it right now based on what the league looks like, I’m saying I’d love Palace to win it. I’ll be at Selhurst Park every week.

“I’ll fly in from Dubai every week and just support them because I don’t want you to win it.”

Of course, Ferdinand’s support for Crystal Palace is mainly based on him not wanting to see either Arsenal or Liverpool win the title, but it would also set up a sensational achievement if it were to happen.

Crystal Palace are currently making history under Oliver Glasner

The current Crystal Palace team are gaining plenty of plaudits for their performances as of late, and they have ended up making history this past weekend.

The victory against Liverpool extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 18 games, equalling the longest run in their history, which ended in August 1969.

That run has also seen them win the FA Cup and the Community Shield while also dealing with the loss of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

Should Oliver Glasner’s men avoid a loss against Dynamo Kyiv, they will break that record as they continue pushing in all competitions.
