Arsenal fans will have been delighted to have Bukayo Saka back fit and firing against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
In the past, it was Bukayo Saka’s relationship with Ben White that was feared by left-sided defenders across the Premier League.
But owing to Jurrien Timber’s rise to prominence, Saka is now also developing a seriously strong connection with the Dutchman.
Newcastle’s Dan Burn had a serious task on his hands to contain both on Sunday, and Arsenal were getting a lot of joy down their right-hand side.
But ultimately Mikel Arteta’s side were threatening Newcastle’s back line on all fronts, and new signing Eberechi Eze was doing some excellent work in the middle.
Bukayo Saka praises Eberechi Eze after his Newcastle display
Since his arrival at Arsenal, Eze hasn’t often been afforded the chance to play as a number 10 in crucial matches.
But owing to Martin Odegaard’s injury, Eze was given the opportunity to be Arsenal’s focal point in the middle against Newcastle, an opportunity he certainly didn’t pass up.
Before the game, Eze spoke about how much he’d learnt from Arteta already at Arsenal.
And when speaking to Stadium Astro after the final whistle at St James’ Park, Saka was quick to praise his fellow England teammate.

Asked about Eze’s performance, Saka replied: “Yeah I think he was unstoppable today at times, he was really good.
“I was just speaking to him now in the changing room, you know, that first chance – there’s not many keepers that will save that.
“That would have topped it off, but even without the goal today, he was really really good for us and he’s a really exciting signing and I’m happy to have him in our team.”
Ethan Nwaneri left out of Arsenal’s squad against Newcastle United
Much to Arsenal fans’ surprise, Ethan Nwaneri wasn’t named in Arteta’s squad to face Newcastle, even though he travelled to Tyneside.
Given that Eze was playing as the number 10 and Arsenal had Odegaard on the bench ready to come on, it was seemingly decided that Nwaneri could be left out.
Max Dowman was included, but it seems as if the young Hale End talent is currently being considered as back-up for Saka rather than as a number 10.
TBR Football understands that Arteta spoke to Nwaneri about playing more centrally in his recent contract talks.
But following the arrival of Eze at the club, it might be harder for Arsenal to afford those opportunities to the 18-year-old right now.
Either way, there will be plenty of playing opportunities for all of Eze, Nwaneri and Dowman over the busy weeks and months to come.
And it’s clear that Arteta now has the kind of strength in depth that he’s always strived for.
