Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is currently on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Senegal.
On Friday, the Spurs star helped the reigning AFCON champions reach the last 16 of the competition.
Sarr started and played 74 minutes for Senegal as they ran out 3-1 winners over Cameroon in their Group C clash in Yamoussoukro.
The 21-year-old Tottenham man provided the assist for his nation’s opening goal in the 13th minute of the match.
In the 13th minute, Sarr was on hand to head the ball back into the box after Andre Onana’s poor punch from a corner.

The ball landed kindly to Ismaila Sarr. He, in turn, spun towards goal and fired home via a deflection to put Senegal in the lead.
Habib Diallo then made it 2-0 in the 71st minute. Though Jean-Charles Castelletto halved the deficit on 83 minutes, Sadio Mane made sure of victory with an injury-time third.
After the game, Sarr took to Instagram to post a photo of him from the game. He also wrote the caption “the work continues”.
Several of his peers replied in the comments including Richarlison, who posted an applause emoji, and Emerson Royal, who wrote “Papinho”.

“Omnipresent. This word alone can sum up Pape Matar Sarr’s display, as the sentinel of this team was impressive in his activity in midfield,” 90Min wrote of the Spurs ace after the game.
Tottenham Hotspur struck gold with Pape Matar Sarr signing
Spurs have done very well in terms of scouting and moving for some of the best young players in the game in recent years.
Sarr is right up there. Indeed, Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic previously claimed that Tottenham were congratulated by rival suitors for getting the deal for the midfielder over the line in 2021.
“I know for a fact that when Tottenham signed him they had other heads of recruitment at other clubs ringing them up saying ‘wow, you did well to get Sarr, he’s someone we wanted for a while’,” he said on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel in 2022.
It’s great to see Sarr becoming indispensable for both Spurs and Senegal at such a young age. He has an amazing future ahead of him.
