The likes of Arsenal and West Ham United may have been dealt a potential transfer blow, with The Sun reporting that John Stones wants to stay at Manchester City beyond this summer.
Stones has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium after a tough time. The centre-back made just two league starts beyond the end of January.
The Sun has suggested that the likes of Arsenal and the Hammers had been monitoring the 26-year-old. It was also The Sun who reported at the end of last month that David Moyes’s men had moved ahead of the Gunners in the race to land Stones.
However, any side hoping to sign the England international during this window looks set for disappointment.
The Sun has suggested that Stones wants to stay with the Cityzens and fight for his place. It is noted that he only has two years left on his £130,000-a-week contract, so a departure may still perhaps be on the horizon if he is not going to be offered a new deal.
TBR View: Arsenal may not mind missing out on Stones
It may be a blow for West Ham should Stones stay put. A number of their supporters suggested that they would like the former Everton man to join when the initial links emerged.
But for Arsenal, not signing Stones is seemingly not going to be a huge problem. The Telegraph reported this weekend that the Gunners are set to announce the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes in the coming days.
So it will be very interesting to note how Gabriel and Stones get on next season after both were linked with a potential move to the Emirates.
