Report: 'World-class' player is now desperate to leave, after being linked with Tottenham transfer

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is incredibly demanding when it comes to the transfer market.

Sporting director Fabio Paratici has already pulled off some brilliant deals for him since arriving at the club.

A report from CalcioMercato suggests it could be slightly easier to bring in another of his targets.

The Italian outlet suggests that Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij wants to leave the club.

His contract runs out next summer, and it doesn’t look like the Dutch defender is going to sign an extension.

The ‘world-class’ defender has been linked with Spurs for some time, and is a player Conte knows well.

The 30-year-old has played nearly 100 matches under the Italian manager during his time in Italy.

A member of the Dutch squad at the World Cup, De Vrij’s been a reliable centre-back at Inter for years.

However, despite having a contract offer on the table for over a month, De Vrij doesn’t look to be keen on renewing his deal.

Tottenham target De Vrij wants to leave Inter

CalcioMercato believe that De Vrij has now expressed a desire to move abroad to face a new challenge in his career.

At 30 years old, he’s still got time at the top of the game ahead of him, while potentially providing Spurs with plenty of experience.

De Vrij’s agent has made it clear that he’s unlikely to leave Inter in January, even if he wants a new challenge.

It means Spurs wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee to secure his services, although he may demand a large signing on fee instead.

Conte has previously compared De Vrij to Leonardo Bonucci which is very high praise indeed.

De Vrij typically plays in the middle of a back three for Inter, and would provide competition for Eric Dier.

Dier played well enough to earn himself a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad at the World Cup.

However, his form his start to dip before the tournament, and his sliced clearance against Brentford lead to their second goal.

If De Vrij wants to leave Inter, Spurs will want to pounce quickly, and he could end up settling straight into Conte’s back line.
