Report: Tottenham ready to launch bid to sign 30-year-old centre-back, Conte thinks he’s like Bonnuci
Tottenham are considering moving for Inter defender Stefan de Vrij, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. The Premier League outfit will look to bolster their rearguard in January and appear to have identified the Dutchman.
Spurs are going to move for the player who went to the World Cup with Holland. He failed to get on the pitch as Louis van Gaal’s team were beaten by Argentina in the quarter-final on penalties.
The tournament proved a decent one for Holland but De Vrij will be disappointed not to have played. An Inter star, he has been utilised at club level on a regular basis and they’re preparing to offer him a new deal.
Conte is a huge fan of De Vrij. He’s previously compared him to Leonardo Bonucci and he was a regular in the team when the Tottenham manager was in charge of the San Siro giants.
Inter want to keep the player. A new contract will be in the offing but it will be interesting to see if the player is keen to remain in Italy.
Playing under Conte again must be a big lure for the defender. He played some brilliant stuff under the Tottenham boss and he would surely jump at the chance to play under him again.
Tottenham considering move for De Vrij
The central defender would be a very useful signing for Tottenham. He has lots of experience and has made 181 appearances for Inter.
De Vrij has 59 caps for Holland. He will know that the 2022 World Cup was probably his last chance at starring at the tournament.
Now, the player has a serious decision to make about his future. He will be out of contract in the summer and Tottenham could land him for free.
But, the club might move sooner. Conte is a huge admirer of De Vrij and it’s fair to say that Tottenham could benefit from another centre-back.
Reuniting with Conte would surely be something that the Dutchman would be willing to do. If he does, Tottenham could get themselves a big coup during the January transfer window.
