Report: Woodman left out of Newcastle training camp

Newcastle United have left Freddie Woodman out of the pre-season training camp in York, according to Shields Gazette.

The Magpies are currently preparing for a double-header of pre-season fixtures this Sunday. One starting XI will face York City at the LNER Community Stadium, while another will take on Harrogate Town at EnviroVent Stadium. Both games will be kicking off at 2:00pm.

Woodman spent last season on loan at Swansea City, where he reached the Championship play-off final. However, the Welsh outfit were defeated by Brentford.

He returned to pre-season training last week, following his excursions with Steve Cooper’s side. The player is not thought to be in Steve Bruce’s plans for the upcoming season.

In an Instagram post, the shot-stopped revealed that he was in Croydon, London.

Woodman absence from York tour hints at future

Absence from the York leg of pre-season shows that the future of Woodman is away from Newcastle.

It proves an incredibly baffling decision from Steve Bruce to leave the £10m-rated ace out.

The 24-year-old was in sensational form for Swansea during last season’s promotion chase. He kept a staggering 21 clean sheets across his 41 league games.

Woodman earned rave reviews for his performances in the second tier. Dean Ashton labelled the ‘keeper ‘outstanding’ following his display versus Barnsley in the play-off semi-final.

Meanwhile, Martin Dubravka enjoyed a less than assuring Euro 2020 with Slovakia. The ace endured a nightmare in the 5-0 thumping at the hands of Spain in his country’s final group game, scoring an own goal.

Leaving Woodman out means he could be on his way to leaving in what is a confusing move from Bruce.
