Leeds fans react as Orta reportedly eyes Newcastle star Woodman
Leeds reportedly want Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, with three players shortlisted to replace Kiko Casilla. The Spaniard is now on loan at Elche, with a permanent option in the deal. Woodman is one of three who could replace him, and Leeds fans have responded on Twitter.
Casilla, 34, played just three times in the Premier League last season as Illan Meslier’s understudy, and two of those came in the last two games of the season. The three-time Champions League winner is on big wages at Elland Road. It has seen him leave on a loan-to-buy deal, joining top-tier side Elche.
It leaves Leeds without a senior back-up goalkeeper. Meslier remains first choice and is unlikely to be replaced between the sticks. Leeds, then, need a player happy to play second fiddle. The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Woodman is one of three goalkeepers being targeted by Victor Orta.
What are Leeds fans saying about Newcastle stopper Woodman?
Along with Toon stopper Woodman, Leeds are also considering Levante goalkeeper Dani Cardenas – and Valerenga talent Kristoffer Klaesson. Woodman, though, is obviously the most-recognisable name. His form at Swansea City on loan over the last two seasons has been hard to ignore.
The Toon ace was part of the England Under-20 side that won the FIFA U20 World Cup – and kept a whopping 22 clean sheets last term for Swansea. Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to his potential arrival. While it remains to be seen if he wants to play back-up, fans think he is a good signing.
The Chronicle claim he is worth £10million.
