Report: Wolves want Sporting star Joao Palhinha
Wolves have become the latest club to eye a move for Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to a report from Calciomercato.
Bruno Lage is starting to find his feet at Molineux after a slow start. Wolves have won their last three in the Premier League and sit 10th in the table.
It appears that they are already turning their attention to the January transfer window, and perhaps beyond.
Calciomercato reports that they want Palhinha. The 26-year-old has made a brilliant start to the campaign with Sporting.
He has actually scored twice from holding midfield in the top flight. And he is now into double figures for caps for his country – despite only making his debut earlier this year.
That debut actually came as he replaced Ruben Neves. Meanwhile, he was named alongside Nelson Semedo and Joao Moutinho in the most recent Portugal squad.
Jose Sa, Pedro Neto and Francisco Trincao are amongst those who can also call Palhinha a countryman, of course.
Can Wolves succeed where Premier League rival failed amid Joao Palhinha links?
It is not the first time that the midfielder has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League.
It was reported in the summer that Tottenham wanted Palhinha. Obviously, a move to North London would have seen him working with Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, Spurs had a loan bid rejected with Sporting demanding £34 million. His contract is said to include a £51 million release clause.
So it will be interesting to see if Wolves manage to succeed where Tottenham failed and add to their Portuguese contingent in the near future.
