Report: Sporting reject Spurs loan bid for Joao Palhinha
Spurs have seen a loan bid for Joao Palhinha rejected by Sporting with the Daily Star reporting that the Portuguese side want £34 million for the 26-year-old.
The Daily Star notes that Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to sign two more players before the transfer window shuts.
And one of those they want is Palhinha. It is noted that his contract includes a £51 million release clause.
The Portugal international is an extremely disciplined holding midfielder, who also covers ground incredibly well.
He featured for his country at Euro 2020 having helped Sporting to the title last season.
And it seems that Spurs have already made an attempt to bring him to North London.
According to the Daily Star, Sporting have rejected a loan bid from Tottenham for Palhinha. It is noted that they want £34 million before selling him permanently.
Spurs do not need to spend £34 million on Joao Palhinha after seeing loan bid rejected
Tottenham have done some seriously impressive business in the window. So it is not hard to imagine Fabio Paratici pulling a rabbit out of the hat in the final weeks of the summer.
Therefore, Spurs may have little need to get close to Sporting’s demands. Perhaps they will attempt to see if a compromise is possible.
But Paratici will have something else lined up if their pursuit of Palhinha has taken them down a dead-end.
Palhinha is a very good midfielder. And a loan deal could have been inspired. However, some of the boxes he ticks are arguably not ones that Nuno has to address as a priority.
So surely they will now look elsewhere to fill the void in the middle of the park.
