Report: Wolves reject Newcastle bid for youngster
Newcastle United have confirmed their interest in Wolves starlet Dion Sanderson, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the Magpies have seen a £1.5 million bid for the defender rejected.
Sanderson could well be on the move this summer. According to the Mirror, Wolves want just £2 million for the 21-year-old.
Transfermarkt shows that he is out of contract at the end of next season. And it appears that their Premier League rivals are looking to capitalise.
According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle have made the seven-figure bid. However, it has been turned down by Wolves.
The Mirror adds that Sunderland are keen on signing Sanderson. The League One side had the centre-back on loan for some of last season.
But the Mirror adds that they have so far only offered £1 million for Sanderson.
Newcastle missing out on Sanderson would not be best look after £1.5m bid
Admittedly, Sanderson is unproven at the highest level. And it is perhaps not the most exciting rumour for Magpies fans, particularly when they are battling a third tier side for his signature.
However, given how close they are to meeting his asking price, it really would not be the best look if they did not make sure to get a deal done.
He is a young player with potential.
And the fee involved is surely unlikely to eat up a large chunk of Steve Bruce’s budget.
It must however, be noted that Newcastle are reportedly reluctant to pay £4 million for Mario Lemina, so it is difficult to predict what stance they will take.
But having got most of the way towards meeting Wolves’ asking price, surely there is no chance they will leave the door open for Sunderland.
