Report: Wolves interested in Ange Postecoglou after Lopetegui decision

Wolves are interested in Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou after missing out on Julen Lopetegui, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Lopetegui opted against taking the Molineux job this week. The Spaniard is currently out of work after being sacked by Sevilla this season.

The decision leaves Wolves still searching for Bruno Lage’s successor. According to the Daily Mail, Wolves may now turn their attention to Bo Svensson. But they have other names in mind.

In fact, the Daily Mail reports that Postecoglou has admirers at Molineux. It is noted however, that he is unlikely to leave Celtic at this stage of the season.

Postecoglou will currently be coming to terms with the fact that Celtic’s Champions League journey is almost definitely set to end at the group-stages.

The Hoops’ defeat to RB Leipzig on Tuesday means that they need two wins to stand a small chance of going through. They travel to the Bernabeu on the final match day.

A spot in the Europa League is not out of the question. But they must beat Shakhtar Donetsk to stand any chance.

Whether that disappointment comes into Postecoglou’s thinking remains to be seen if Wolves make an approach. But the Australian is absolutely loved at Parkhead.

Wolves meanwhile, are really struggling at the start of this Premier League season. So it may not be the most appealing opportunity.

Journalist Rory Smith previously told BBC Radio Five Live that Postecoglou had admirers at Manchester City. So a Premier League move may well be on the cards at some stage.

He is an ‘outstanding‘ manager who has done brilliantly at Celtic. Wolves are right to consider him. However, it would be a real shock if he decided to make the switch.
